The circle around those responsible for the country's economic woes continues to tighten, with the stop-list drawn up to prevent key figures accused of corruption from traveling abroad.

Important sources of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration stationed at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport told Geo News that the number of names included in the stop list has now exceeded 1,000.

Initially, the stop list includes the names of close associates and government officials posted with them instead of high-ranking individuals.

Sources revealed that the FIA immigration stop list includes the names of some close associates and officers of former Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, but 3 important ministers of Sindh who went abroad recently. The names were not in the stop list.

According to FIA sources, the stop list includes political figures and government officials, along with names of businessmen, builders and industrialists.

According to the sources, the list also includes names of persons involved in financial corruption, tax evasion, referral and handi business, currency, sugar and petroleum smuggling.

FIA sources further said that the names of PTI funding personalities are also included in the stop list, along with the names of several senior government officials who are supporters of the PTI government.

According to FIA sources, apart from the stop list in the IBM system, some names are also given directly for each international flight.

According to FIA sources, the immigration staff at all international airports have been instructed to strictly stop the persons included in the stop list.
