Gibraltar joins Schengen zone after Brexit

Just hours before leaving the EU's domestic market, Britain struck a deal with Spain over Gibraltar. Under the agreement, Gibraltar or Gibraltar, known as Britain's overseas territory, will now join the EU's Schengen zone. Thus, the free movement of civilians between Gibraltar and the European Union is possible without passport control. In Madrid, Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said the agreement prevented a new EU external border between Spain and Gibraltar from being created. In the 2016 Bridget referendum, 96% of Gibraltar's 33,000 citizens voted in favor of joining the European Union.
